“Damn!” Melissa stomped the brake, holding the car steady while the vehicle’s back end decided whether to shimmy left or right. Cage braced his boots hard against the floorboard.
They skidded to a stop less than ten feet from a gaunt man who'd careened onto the pavement in front of them. “Good reflexes, love. Stay put.” Cage studied the man for a couple of seconds before slowly opening his car door. He clutched the Colt in his left hand, finger on the trigger.
